Fatal San Bernardino Crash on I-10 Freeway, Waterman Avenue Off-Ramp

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., (July 8, 2026) — A fatal car accident occurred Wednesday at approximately 1:35 p.m. on the I-10 Freeway East near the Waterman Avenue off-ramp in San Bernardino. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a blue Mazda pickup truck lost control and veered off the right-hand side embankment.
According to the CHP log, the vehicle overturned and collided with a street light pole and a tree before coming to rest in a McDonald’s parking lot. Witnesses reported that the driver, described as a male possibly wearing a white t-shirt and dark pants with long braids, was seen walking away from the scene. Additionally, a passenger in the vehicle was found unresponsive, prompting emergency services to expedite their response.
San Bernardino Police Department and emergency responders were quickly on the scene. Despite their efforts, the passenger’s condition was critical, and the individual tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The identification of the deceased has not been publicly released pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities noted that the driver of the vehicle exhibited high speeds prior to the collision. After the crash, the driver was reportedly seen running through a nearby Popeyes parking lot, raising concerns about potential hit-and-run charges.
The CHP and local investigators are actively seeking information from the public to assist in locating the driver and understanding the circumstances that led to this devastating incident.
