Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash on I-5

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (July 11, 2023) — A fatal San Clemente pedestrian accident happened Tuesday morning on the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway near Cristianitos Road.

The deadly, hit-and-run crash was discovered around 4:33 a.m. on July 11th, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Someone called 911 to report vehicles were swerving around a body in the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes of the freeway, the report said.

Police responded and closed down the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 lanes from just north of Cristinitos to just south of San Luis Rey, the report said. The San Diego Medical Examiner responded to handle the body, but there are no further details such as the gender, age or identity of the person who died.

Investigators are piecing together evidence to find out what happened and locate the driver who fled the scene.
