One Killed and One Injured in Accident Near the Mexican Border
San Diego, Calif. (July 26, 2023) — A fatal car accident occurred Wednesday on the Interstate 805 heading toward the Mexican border entry on Camino De La Plaza.
The collision occurred about 11:54 a.m. on July 26th, near the San Ysidro Southbound Inspection on the Mexican border in San Diego County according to a California Highway Patrol dispatch and CBS8.
A white Audi sedan, driven by a 29-year-old man, was trying to enter Mexico through the San Isidro Southbound inspection. The driver abruptly made a U-turn and started heading northbound in the southbound freeway lanes before crashing into a black Honda van. The identity of the driver of the Honda is still unknown. The authorities shut down all the southbound lanes on the Interstate 805 Highway and began to divert traffic off the freeway.
Meanwhile the San Diego Fire Department and paramedics arrived on the scene and immediately began assisting those injured in the crash. The unidentified driver of the Honda died following the collision. However, the driver of the Audi sedan was taken to the hospital with major injuries that were not life threatening.
Tow trucks soon arrived on the scene to aid in clearing the damaged vehicles from off the freeway. Investigators are working on the case to determine who is at fault for the fatal accident on the Interstate 805.
