Deadly, Wrong-way Driver Crash on I-5 Freeway in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Jan. 10, 2022) – A fatal San Diego crash involving a wrong-way driver happened Sunday on the Interstate 5 Freeway near Old Town between a car and a truck.
Multiple drivers called 911 to alert the CHP about the wrong-way driver on the Interstate 8 prior to the collision on the I-5 Freeway. The motorist reportedly transitioned onto the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway.
A driver in a white Volvo traveling southbound in the northbound lanes crashed head-on into a gray truck about 7:10 p.m. on January 9th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The impact caused the truck to overturn onto its side and blocked the middle lanes of the freeway.
Meanwhile, paramedics and police responded and pronounced at least one person dead on scene.
The San Diego Medical Examiner will identify those killed in the fatal San Diego crash after relative are notified.
Police are investigating the crash to determine if drugs and or alcohol are factors.
