Deadly Crash on I-5 at SR-164 in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Sept. 18, 2023) — A fatal San Diego crash happened Sunday on the Interstate 5 Freeway at the transition to state Route 163 (Cabrillo Freeway).
The collision occurred around 8:44 p.m. on Sept. 17th near downtown San Diego, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
CHP officials reported a white Nissan Altima was stopped in the No. 3 lane with its airbags deployed and emergency lights flashing. The driver believed they hit a pedestrian who wound up in the No. 1 lane. The bumper was missing and debris was in the roadway.
At least one person died in the collision, but there are no further details at this time.
The case remains under investigation to determine fault.
