Pedestrian Struck, Killed in South San Jose
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Nov. 27, 2023) — A fatal pedestrian accident happened Sunday morning on the Capitol Expressway between Copperfield Drive and Bluefield Drive in South San Jose.
The deadly, hit-and-run crash occurred at around 12:34 a.m. on Nov. 26th near the Waterford shopping center, according to a post on Twitter by the San Jose Police Media Relations.
A woman and her two children were traveling eastbound in a 2016 Range Rover SUV on Capitol Expressway when she allegedly struck a male pedestrian in a marked crosswalk. She fled the scene of the collision and was later located at her home.
Meanwhile, paramedics responded and rushed the injured person to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The victim later died at the hospital, becoming the 25th pedestrian to die in San Jose so far this year and the 44th fatality collision in the city.
Police arrested the woman driving the Range Rover on suspicion of a felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and child endangerment, according to a report by East Bay Times.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the pedestrian accident on the Capitol Expressway.
