Fatal San Marcos Pedestrian Accident Mission Road and Las Posas Road
Woman, 66, Struck and Killed in San Marcos
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 19, 2024) — A fatal San Marcos pedestrian accident happened Thursday night at West Mission Road and North Las Posas Road in San Diego County.
A 66-year-old woman was hit by a vehicle while walking in a crosswalk at around 7:43 p.m. on Jan. 19th, according to the San Diego County Sheriff‘s Office and the Times of San Diego. She sustained major injuries and died on scene.
Deputies responded to the scene of the collision at the San Marcos intersection.
The 61-year-old man driving a gray Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was heading westbound and the victim was walking in a north direction near the Palomar Sprinter Station. The vehicle struck the woman in the 1100 block of West Mission Road.
The pickup truck driver stopped and called 911 to report the crash to police. A witness driving in the area saw the collision and stopped to provide help to the pedestrian until paramedics arrived, police said.
The San Marcos Fire Department responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Authorities are investigating whether there were any contributing factors that led to the collision.
