SANGER, Calif. (June 14, 2023) — A fatal crash on Highway 180 also known as East Kings Canyon Road happened early Wednesday morning, just west of North Bethal Avenue in Sanger.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 3:10 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of State Route 180, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP dispatch reported the driver of a black Dodge Charger allegedly rear-ended a Honda Odyssey at high speed. The van was pushed off the roadway and crashed into a tree where it caught on fire after the collision.
The Sanger Police Department and CAL Fire responded to help those involved, but sadly at least one person from the Honda died at the scene. Meanwhile, four people from the Dodge Charger suffered undisclosed injuries and were transported to Community Regional Medical Center.
Caltrans closed down Highway 180 at South Indianola Avenue.
Police are piecing together what happened and are conducting an investigation to determine fault.
