Possible Hit-and-run Crash on Freeway in Santa Ana
SANTA ANA, Calif. (June 27, 2024) — A driver struck and killed a pedestrian Thursday on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway, just north of 17th Street in Santa Ana.
The deadly crash involved a possible hit-and-run motorist and occurred at around 3:41 a.m. on June 27th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the pedestrian was located in the No. 4 lane of the freeway and there was a black sedan blacked out on the right shoulder. It’s possible the car belonged to the pedestrian.
The driver of a white Nissan Altima sedan who struck the victim reportedly exited the freeway and stopped in front of Bowers Museum at 2002 North Main Street. It’s unknown if the driver was with the vehicle or if it was abandoned there.
The Orange County Sheriff Coroner responded to the crash scene to take the victim’s body, but they have not yet identified the person.
Investigators are working on the case and asking witnesses to call the CHP office or Santa Ana Police Department.
