Driver Hits Pedestrian on I-5 Freeway in Santa Ana
SANTA ANA, Calif. (June 1, 2022) – A fatal Santa Ana pedestrian accident happened Monday night on the Interstate 5 Freeway, just north of 17th Street.
A driver struck and killed a pedestrian who was reportedly walking in traffic lanes about 9:12 p.m. on May 31st, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
Someone called 911 to report a person walking in traffic lanes just minutes before the deadly collision.
Police located a pedestrian down in the roadway and they reported a blue Subaru Outback stopped nearby.
Sadly, paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The Orange County Sheriff Coroner has not released the person’s identity, gender or age at this time.
Meanwhile, the driver in the Subaru required a tow truck due to significant damage, police said.
It is unknown at this time why the pedestrian was walking in freeway lanes. The Santa Ana pedestrian accident remains under investigation by the CHP.
