Fatal Santa Clarita Crash Interstate 5 Freeway, Magic Mountain Pkwy

Deadly Crash Involving Stalled Car and Semi-Truck, Box Truck

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (Jan. 6, 2026) — A fatal multi-vehicle crash in Santa Clarita shut down several lanes of northbound Interstate 5 near Magic Mountain Parkway early Tuesday morning, prompting a lengthy SigAlert, authorities said.

The collision was reported on Jan. 6th shortly after 3 a.m. and involved a semi-truck, a box truck, and a gold Toyota Camry in the northbound lanes of I-5 just south of Magic Mountain Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol. Initial reports indicated the Camry was disabled and blocking lanes when it was struck. One of the trucks overturned, blocking multiple lanes.

At least one person was killed in the crash. The victim’s identity has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. CHP logs indicate the coroner was requested to respond, and the Toyota Camry was towed for evidence.

All northbound lanes were initially blocked, with traffic diverted off the freeway at Valencia Boulevard. A SigAlert was issued for lanes two through four and remained in effect for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene, conduct the investigation, and remove damaged vehicles. At various points, only one lane was open to traffic.

Firefighters and law enforcement remained on scene for several hours. By approximately 6 a.m., additional lanes began reopening, though delays persisted.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. CHP urged drivers to slow down, remain alert, and use alternate routes when possible.
