Fatal Santa Cruz Pedestrian Accident on Highway 1, Scaroni Road

Pedestrian Struck, Killed on State Route 1 Near Gordola

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (Feb. 13, 2025) — A fatal pedestrian accident happened Thursday morning on Cabrillo Highway 1 and Scaroni Road near Gordola in Santa Cruz.

The deadly crash occurred at around 4:23 a.m. on Feb. 13th, according to the California Highway Patrol. Police closed down SR-1 at Dimeo Lane due to the crash.

A driver in a black Ford Ranger pickup truck reportedly hit the pedestrian in the roadway due to unknown circumstances. The driver immediately pulled over on the right shoulder of the northbound SR-1, the report said.

Paramedics responded, but unfortunately the pedestrian suffered major injuries and died on scene.

Meanwhile, a tow truck removed the vehicle from the roadway and towed it to a yard in Watsonville.

Investigators are working to determine liability for the pedestrian accident on Cabrillo Highway 1 in Santa Cruz.
