Fatal Santa Rosa Crash on U.S. Highway 101, Near State Route 12

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (June 3, 2026) — A fatal multi-vehicle crash on northbound U.S. Highway 101 in Santa Rosa prompted lane closures and major traffic delays Wednesday morning near the State Route 12 interchange, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported on June 3rd shortly before 8 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 just south of the Highway 12 connector. Initial reports indicated at least four vehicles were involved, including a white Chevrolet Silverado 5500 work truck, a white big rig, multiple sedans, a gray Ford SUV, and a gray Subaru that came to rest blocking the middle lanes.

CHP dispatch logs indicate the crash initially came in as a traffic collision with unknown injuries but was later upgraded to a fatal incident.

Authorities shut down lanes No. 2 and 3 as emergency crews responded to the scene. A SigAlert was issued around 8:08 a.m., warning motorists of significant delays on northbound Highway 101 south of Highway 12. Traffic was diverted onto State Route 12 as transportation crews responded with cone trucks to assist with lane closures. Three of the vehicles, including the Chevrolet truck with moderate front-end damage, were towed for evidence.

By approximately 8:20 a.m., Sonoma County authorities had been contacted for the coroner’s response, confirming at least one fatality in the collision.

The circumstances leading up to the crash and the identity of the person killed have not yet been released. It was not immediately clear whether additional injuries were reported.

Motorists traveling through the area were urged to expect delays and seek alternate routes while investigators worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
