Pat LaFortune, 78, Killed in Collision Involving 11 Vehicles
SANTA ROSA, Calif. (Sept. 3, 2024) — A chain-reaction crash involving eleven vehicles on Highway 12 last Thursday left a 78-year-old woman dead and nine others injured in Santa Rosa.
It happened at around 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, August 29th at Highway 12 and Fulton Road, according to ABC 7 San Francisco.
Investigators believe a driver in a large dump truck hauling dirt slammed into multiple vehicles that were stopped due to traffic and set off a chain-reaction crash involving eleven motorists.
A driver in one of those vehicle was 78-year-old Pat LaFortune who died at the scene. She was a former history teacher and track coach at Santa Rosa’s Cardinal Newman High School, according to the school’s alumni Facebook page.
Paramedics also transported nine others with injuries to hospitals with various injuries. The Santa Rosa Fire Department reported there were three people with major injuries.
Several vehicles including a pickup truck caught on fire following the collision.
Investigators are working to determine liability for the collision.
