Bus Versus Car Crash; Students Injured
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (August 25, 2023) — Gilverto Moreno Castro, 48, of Lamont, died in a crash involving a Kern High School District bus and a minivan at South Mount Vernon Avenue and East Belle Terrace in southeast Bakersfield.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 24th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
4ilverto Moreno Castro was traveling southbound in a minivan on Mount Vernon Avenue when the vehicle veered into the path of the northbound school bus.
The Toyota Sienna collided with the bus that was transporting the Golden Valley High School Varsity Football team to last night’s game at East High School, according to KERO. The bus driver and two of the 38 students aboard the school bus were treated for mild to moderate injuries. The three people were transported to Kern Medical Hospital.
Meanwhile, the 48-year-old Lamont man driving the Toyota died in the collision. Authorities reported he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
