One Dead, One Injured in Big Rig Crash in Sylmar
SYLMAR, Calif. (July 18, 2019) – One person died and another person was hospitalized after a semi-tractor trailer truck slammed into a support pillar underneath an overpass Wednesday night on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway truck route lanes in Sylmar.
The truck carrying grapes overturned in the 11:45 p.m. crash and prompted the closure of several lanes on two separate freeways , police said.
Firefighters responded to the scene at the Foothill Freeway (Interstate 210) connector and found two people trapped inside the truck cab, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Upon impact, the truck’s load shifted forward into the cab where it trapped the two occupants.
Unfortunately, the truck driver died at the scene, however, the passenger was extricated from the wreckage and transported to a hospital in serious condition, police said.
The crash remains under investigation by police.
