Fatal Crash State Route 118 Balcom Canyon Road Near Moorpark
SOMIS, Calif. (August 10, 2018) — A 9-year-old boy died Friday morning when the vehicle he was riding in was involved in a T-bone collision with a semi-tractor trailer truck on State Route 118, just west of Balcom Canyon Road, a California Highway Patrol report said.
A woman and a 7-year-old suffered major injuries in the collision.
The collision took place about 7:52 a.m. between a Chevrolet and the double-tanker big rig truck. All eastbound lanes of the roadway were blocked after the collision and gas was leaking from the truck everywhere, the report said. Caltrans was called to make a hard closure of the roadway to allow for cleanup and the investigation into what happened.
Ventura County Accident Investigation
At this time, it’s unknown who is at fault for this collision. It’s unknown if the truck pulled out in front of the vehicle or if the opposite was the case. A full investigation is underway to determine fault.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family.
In a case such as this one, there could also be more than one entity responsible for this collision including an employer if the driver was working at the time of the crash, an auto manufacturer or a government entity. A qualified attorney would conduct a full investigation into the circumstances and ensure all responsible parties are identified.
