STOCKTON, Calif. (August 7, 2023) — One person is dead and several others injured after a Stockton crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway near March Lane.
The collision occurred around 11:56 p.m. on Saturday, August 5th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a driver in a Dodge sedan allegedly struck an SUV in the southbound lanes of the I-5. The SUV went on to collide with the center divider and an occupant from the car died at the scene.
Meanwhile, several people who were traveling in the GMC Yukon SUV suffered injuries and were transported to a hospital. The injuries are considered non-life threatening.
CHP officials closed down all of southbound lanes of the Interstate 5 Freeway for roughly two hours to investigate the crash.
Authorities determined the driver of the Dodge was under the influence of alcohol and or drugs and arrested the person on suspicion of DUI.
Investigators continue to work on the case.
