STUDIO CITY, Calif. (Jan. 17, 2023) — A one-month-old baby girl died in a Studio City crash on the 101 Freeway near Tujunga Avenue.
The traffic accident occurred about 1:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon in the northbound lanes of the 101 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Zumaya Gerardo, 67, of Los Angeles, was driving a semi-tractor trailer truck merged from the right shoulder into the No. 5 lane and collided with a Land Rover occupied by a man, woman and infant from Sylmar.
The Land Rover driver reportedly lost control and the vehicle overturned multiple times. The SUV eventually came to a stop after it crashed into a concrete sound wall.
Sadly, during the crash, the baby was thrown out of the Land Rover.
Paramedics responded and rushed the Bobby Perez, 27, Cynthia Olvera, 26, and the baby to a hospital. Unfortunately, the baby died at the hospital, authorities said.
Police closed down several lanes of the 101 Freeway for several hours.
