SUN VALLEY, Calif. (Feb. 17, 2023) – Two people died early Friday morning in a fatal Sun Valley crash involving a truck and a van on the Interstate 5 Freeway, just north of the Hollywood 170 Freeway.
The two-vehicle crash was occurred about 5 a.m. on Feb. 17th in the southbound lanes of the Interstate 5 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
It’s unknown what led up to the collision between a big rig truck and a white van. However, one report mentioned the van may have stalled in the roadway prior to the crash, KTLA reported. The van caught on fire and was totaled in the crash. Two people inside the van died at the scene.
Authorities say a third vehicle spun out and hit the center divide, but it’s unknown if it also impacted the other two vehicles.
Traffic was diverted off the roadway and the entire freeway was closed for an investigation into the cause of the fatal Sun Valley crash.
