DUI Suspected in Collision on I-15 at SR-79 in Temecula
TEMECULA, Calif. (August 7, 2024) — A fatal two-vehicle crash happened Tuesday morning on southbound Interstate 15 Freeway near State Route 79 in Temecula.
The collision between a black Toyota Camry and a pickup truck was reported at approximately 6:18 a.m. on the northbound I-15, just south of SR-79, the California Highway Patrol reports.
The pickup overturned onto its roof on top of the center divider. One person from the truck was ejected from the northbound side of the freeway into traffic lanes on the southbound side.
Cal Fire Riverside sent paramedics to the scene and confirmed one person dead, but it’s unknown how many others were treated for injuries.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. As of 9:47 a.m., southbound traffic remained slow.
Tow trucks removed both vehicles for evidence and investigators are working to determine fault for the crash.
Authorities suspect alcohol and or drugs were a factor in the crash, but there are no further details at this time.
