Fatal Thanksgiving Rollover Crash on State Route 94, 15 Freeway in San Diego

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. (Nov. 27, 2023) — Four people died and just one survived a rollover crash early Thanksgiving morning on State Route 94 at the Interstate 15 Freeway near South Park in San Diego.

The deadly crash occurred at around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 23rd, the California Highway Patrol said.

Driver Jonathan Torres, 26, of San Diego, was killed in the crash along with three of his four passengers. A 22-year-old San Marcos woman, who was wearing a seatbelt, survived with minor injuries. All five people were co-workers.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner identified the three passengers who died as the driver’s brother, Ivan Aniceto Torres, 35, of Chula Vista, Nelly Tamara Espinoza, 20, of National City, and Linet Manasyan, 33, of Imperial Beach.

The driver of the black BMW M3 was reportedly traveling at high speed along SR-94 before losing control and crashing. The vehicle overturned multiple times.

All four people who died were ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Only the right front passenger survived the violent collision. Paramedics transported her by ambulance to a local hospital.

Investigators are still working on the cause of the fatal crash on state Route 94, but did not mention if drugs and or alcohol was a factor.
