The 68-year-old Bakersfield man driving the tow truck died in the collision, according to KGET and the California Highway Patrol.
Solo-Vehicle Tow Truck Accident
The 2010 Kenworth flatbed tow truck was towing a Mazda occupied by at least two passengers as it headed southbound on Caliente Road. Authorities say the driver was traveling at an unsafe speed and was unable to safely negotiate his vehicle on the roadway. He lost control of the vehicle and went off the road and crashed. The truck overturned onto its roof and the Mazda was thrown off the back of the flatbed truck.
The tow truck driver was trapped in his vehicle and died at the scene. Meanwhile, a passenger from the tow truck and passengers in the Mazda suffered minor injuries and were transported by ambulances to Kern Medical.
The crash on Caliente Bodfish Road remains under investigation.
