VACAVILLE, Calif. (April 22, 2025) — A 58-year-old Stockton man died in a crash on Interstate 80 Freeway early Tuesday morning led to the closure of eastbound lanes, just east of Leisure Town Road in Vacaville.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 4:20 a.m. on April 22nd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly traffic accident involved a big rig truck and a small black car, according to CHP’s dispatch report.
Investigators reported the man was driving a 2016 Mazda and became stopped in an eastbound lane on the I-80 when an oncoming 2024 Peterbilt 18-wheel big rig crashed into the vehicle, the CHP said.
Paramedics responded and confirmed at least one person deceased at the scene, prompting a request for the coroner. The 59-year-old truck driver was not hurt in the crash.
Traffic was temporarily diverted to Leisure Town Road and the road reopened after it was cleared at 7:05 a.m.
Investigators are working to determine whether the Mazda’s lights were on prior to the crash and if drugs and or alcohol were factors.
