Bicyclist Killed in Visalia Crash; Suspect Shay Dejonge Sought
VISALIA, Calif. (Nov. 8, 2022) — A 25-year-old man died in a hit-and-run bicycle accident Saturday afternoon on Avenue 144, just south of Avenue 313 in Visalia.
Now authorities are searching for the suspect identified as 31-year-old Shay Dejonge, according to ABC 30 News.
Authorities believe that the woman was driving a 2012 Mazda involved in the 1 p.m. crash on Saturday, Nov. 5th at the Visalia intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle reportedly struck the victim as he rode his bicycle southbound on Avenue 144. Paramedics responded and transported the injured man to a hospital where he later died. Meanwhile, the woman allegedly driving the Mazda continued driving without stopping to help the man.
Witnesses reported seeing a female driver with blonde hair and authorities matched her description to the owner of the Mazda involved in the crash. Police located the vehicle in front of Shay Dejonge’s home and knocked on the door, but she apparently fled on foot.
Investigators continue to work on the case and the Mazda was stored for evidence.
