1 Dead, 2 Injured in Crash; Suspected DUI Driver Arrested
VISTA, Calif. (July 5, 2023) — A suspected DUI driver was arrested following a fatal Vista rollover crash Saturday night on State Route 78, just west of Melrose Drive.
An unidentified Oceanside woman died in the crash. It happened in the westbound lanes of SR-78 around 9:30 p.m. on July 1st, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Nicholas Gordon, 22, of Vista, was driving a white Toyota Corolla when he allegedly rear-ended the woman’s Kia Spectra, according to NBC San Diego News. The two vehicles both crashed into the right shoulder wall and the woman’s car also overturned, police said.
The Vista Fire Department sent paramedics to the scene and pronounced the dead shortly after their arrival.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Gordon, and his 18-year-old passenger, were both transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Police suspected that alcohol and/or drugs were a potential factor that led to the collision.
Authorities arrested Nicholas Gordon on felony charges that included DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, the CHP said.
