Pedestrian Struck, Killed on 22 Freeway in Westminster
WESTMINSTER, Calif. (Feb. 8, 2023) – A driver struck a male pedestrian Wednesday in an accident on the Garden Grove (22) Freeway in Westminster.
The traffic accident occurred about 5:30 a.m. in the slow lane of the westbound Garden Grove Freeway, just east of Beach Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP dispatch operators received a call around 5:15 a.m. prior to the collision about a male wearing a black sweatshirt and jeans walking against traffic in the slow lane. By 5:38 a.m., the report stated a gray Chevrolet Malibu or Impala was stopped on the right shoulder and a male pedestrian was down in the roadway. The victim had no shirt and was wearing white shorts, the report said.
Paramedics responded and police on scene closed down the No. 4 lane. The man’s death was confirmed on the scene. The report does not provide the victim’s age or identity.
Meanwhile, police issued a SigAlert and a tow truck came to remove the Chevrolet from the freeway for evidence.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine liability for the fatal pedestrian accident.
