Steven Fetscher, Cathlene Lewis Killed in Head-on Crash
WILLOWS, Calif. (Jan. 3, 2025) — Two people died, two others were badly injured in a New Year’s Eve crash in the Willows area on the Interstate 5 Freeway, just south of County Road 68.
The deadly crash occurred around 9:18 p.m. on Tuesday night when a 2021 Dodge pickup truck crossed from the northbound lanes into southbound traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
John Haidar, 20, of Simi Valley, was driving the Dodge pickup truck when for unknown reasons the vehicle swerved into the median and overcorrected before moving into the southbound lanes. That’s when the pickup truck collided with an oncoming 2006 Ford pickup truck.
Steven Fetscher, 70, of Paso Robles, was driving the Ford pickup and had two passengers. Nancy Fetscher, 66, also of Paso Robles, and Cathlene Lewis, 64, of Torrance, were his passengers.
Paramedics responded and extricated John Haidar and Nancy Fetscher from the vehicles they were traveling in and both were airlifted to Enloe Hospital for treatment of major injuries.
Meanwhile, Steven Fetscher and Cathlene Lewis both suffered severe injuries and died at the scene.
CHP investigators determined that drugs and or alcohol were not factors in this crash.
