Two Killed, Three Hurt in Wrong-Way Crash on 110 Freeway
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (March 30, 2021) – Two people died in a wrong-way crash on the northbound 110 Harbor Freeway early Tuesday in downtown Los Angeles.
UPDATE: Jasmine De La Cruz, 23, and a 21-year-old Downey man died in the wrong-way crash
The fatal wrong-way crash happened about 2 a.m. near 9th Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Three other people including a child were hurt in the early morning 110 Freeway crash, police said.
The man and woman died when a wrong-way driver in a Lexus SUV crashed into their Toyota sedan on the northbound side of the freeway in the downtown area. A third vehicle struck the Toyota following the first collision.
The man and woman who died were the only people in the Toyota.
Meanwhile, the wrong-way driver suffered serious injuries and was briefly trapped in the Lexus SUV. His female passenger and a child in the Lexus had minor injuries.
Police suspect the man driving the Lexus was driving drunk as he drove southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Coroner will release the names of the victims who died after relatives are notified.
Meanwhile, authorities closed down the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 lanes of the northbound 110 Freeway at Ninth Street.
It’s unknown at this time what charges will be filed against the suspected drunken driver.
