Deadly, Wrong-way Crash on the I-15 Freeway
MOUNTAIN PASS, Calif. (Oct. 18, 2022) — A fatal wrong-way crash on the Interstate 15 Freeway near Cima Road happened Tuesday morning in Mountain Pass.
A female driver in a white Toyota Camry was allegedly driving northbound in the southbound lanes of the Interstate 15 Freeway in the Mountain Pass area, just east of Barstow.
A 911 caller told CHP dispatch operators the motorist moved back and forth between the fast lane and the slow lane about 7:48 a.m. on Oct. 18th, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
The car was traveling at speeds estimated to be 90 mph before it collided head-on with another motorist in a white pickup truck. A third vehicle was also involved, the report said.
Paramedics responded and located the driver from the wrong-way vehicle unconscious. Additionally, one man was airlifted to University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
The CHP report mentioned an Australian Shepherd dog named Zoonie ran from the one of the vehicles. The dog was wearing a collar with its name and phone number.
The vehicles blocked the southbound lanes of the I-15 Freeway as well as the center divider.
Investigators closed down the roadway and are working on the case to determine fault.
