2 Killed, 2 Critically Injured on I-280

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, Calif. (Aug. 2, 2023) — Two people were killed, two others injured in a fatal wrong way crash on Interstate 280 early Saturday morning in Los Altos Hills.

The two-vehicle collision occurred in the southbound lanes around 1:13 a.m. on July 29th, just north of El Monte Road, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.

A 911 caller reported a wrong way driver and her male passenger in a 2007 Honda Civic were traveling north in the southbound lanes of Interstate Highway 280. Soon afterwards, the car collided with a 2021 Toyota Avalon occupied by two men.

Paramedics responded and located the 23-year-old Honda driver and her 23-year-old male passenger deceased at the scene. Meanwhile, the two men in the Toyota survived the crash with major injuries. They were both transported to a hospital.

The names of the people who died and those injured are unknown at this time.

Finally, investigators are working on the case to determine if drugs and or alcohol were a factor for the suspected wrong-way driver.
