Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 58 in Tehachapi, CHP Says

KERN COUNTY, Calif. (June 19, 2025) — A fatal wrong-way driver crash happened Wednesday afternoon on Highway 58, just west of Highway 202 near Tehachapi.

According to the California Highway Patrol the head-on collision occurred around 1:30 p.m. on June 18, 2025.

Police responded to the traffic accident involving a suspected wrong-way driver in a westbound Jeep who was traveling in the eastbound lanes of Highway 58.

The motorist reportedly crashed into an eastbound Ram 1500 pickup truck and the suspect in the Jeep suffered fatal injuries and died on the scene. The woman who died has not yet been identified.

Meanwhile, the injured driver from the Ram 1500 was transported to Kern Medical Center.

“Investigators will work to determine if alcohol and or drugs were a factor in this crash,” said Attorney James Johnson.
