Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 10 Freeway in Whitewater
Palm Springs Man, 25, Killed in Crash on I-10 Freeway
WHITEWATER, Calif. (Feb. 7, 2025) — Kenneth Montenegro, 25, of Palm Springs, died in a wrong-way crash in Whitewater on the Interstate 10 Freeway in Riverside County.
The deadly crash occurred around 3 a.m. on Feb. 7th, at mile marker 26.4, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported three others were injured in the head-on collision near the Whitewater Rest Area.
The young man was driving a grey Volkswagen Jetta that was seen traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes roughly ten minutes before the collision with a black GMC Envoy.
The Volkswagen would up in the numbers two and three lanes where it was hit by another driver in a white Toyota CHR.
The Palm Springs man suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, two of those injured in the crash suffered moderate to major injuries and were taken to Desert Regional Medical Hospital.
The case remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol – San Gorgonio.
