Wrong-Way Driver Killed, Two Injured
PASADENA, Calif. (Dec. 30, 2024) – Jeffrey Mejia Rodriguez, 22, of Los Angeles, died and two people were injured early Sunday in a fatal, wrong-way crash on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Pasadena.
The traffic accident occurred on the westbound 210 around 3:10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29th, near Allen Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The young man was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro eastbound in the westbound HOV lane, the CHP said.
Eventually, his sports car collided head-on with a driver and passenger in a 2021 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Jeffrey Rodriguez suffered major blunt force trauma and died at the scene, according to the CHP and the Medical Examiner’s office.
Meanwhile, the Burbank man driving the pickup truck was hospitalized due to a possible fracture of his left wrist and his 50-year-old female passenger had complaints of neck and back pain, the CHP reported.
Both vehicles had major damage and were towed from the crash site.
Authorities issued a Sigalert issued at 3:25 a.m. and closed down the carpool lane and the No. 1 lane of the westbound freeway. The traffic lanes reopened by 7:47 a.m.
Finally, the fatal crash on the 210 Freeway remains under investigation.
