2-Vehicle Head-on Crash on Highway 101, Metropolitan Road
HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2024) — Three people died in a wrong-way driver crash Sunday night on Highway 101 near Metropolitan Road in Humboldt County.
The deadly, two-vehicle crash occurred on the southbound US 101 at around 10:43 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21st, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol Humboldt Office.
Pickup Truck and Mercedes Benz Collided on US 101
The triple fatality collision was set off by a wrong-way driver in a 2015 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, according to ABC 7 News. The motorist was traveling in the wrong direction on Highway 101 or northbound in the southbound lanes and crashed into a 2010 Mercedes Benz C300.
The Mercedes Benz became engulfed in flames and two people in the vehicle died at the scene. The two victims have not been identified at this time.
Meanwhile, the Tacoma pickup truck driver also died at the crash scene. The driver’s identity will be released after relatives are notified.
Also, CHP officials are heading up the investigation into the crash and will determine if drugs and or alcohol were factors that contributed.
