Woman, 47, Boy, 14, Killed in Head-on Crash
SAN JOSE, Calif. (August 27, 2024) — A woman and teenager were killed in a crash with a wrong-way driver Monday afternoon on Highway 85 in San Jose.
The deadly crash occurred at 3:40 p.m. on August 26th, near the Saratoga Avenue off ramp and the Highway 87 interchange, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
The 47-year-old San Jose woman and a 14-year-old boy were traveling in a white Tesla when they were hit head-on by a white Toyota pickup truck that was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of SR-85, the report said.
Another driver’s dashcam video confirmed the pickup truck was in the fast lane headed in the wrong direction prior to the deadly crash.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Duncan McQuarrie, 39, of Orlando, Florida, was also seen weaving in and out of traffic lanes prior to the crash. He survived with major head trauma and other injuries and was hospitalized.
According to NBC News, the Florida man has a lengthy arrest record that includes a drunk driving conviction in 2014 and an arrest for possession of cocaine in 2021.
It’s unknown at this time if drugs and or alcohol were factors in yesterday’s fatal wrong-way crash on Highway 85.
