Woman, 23, Killed in Rainbow Wrong-Way Crash on 15 Freeway Saturday
SAN DIEGO COUNTY (October 28, 2018) – A young woman was killed after an alleged wrong-way DUI crash along the 15 Freeway in community Rainbow Saturday, according to San Diego Union-Tribune and The Press Enterprise.
As per the reports, the accident involving two vehicles took place at approximately 11:15 p.m. near the San Diego-Riverside county boundary.
California Highway Patrol said the incident began when a 23-year-old Lake Elsinore man in a white Hyundai Elantra entered the 15 freeway at Deer Springs Road, traveling north in the southbound lanes.
CHP’s Oceanside office started a traffic break near Highway 76 in an effort to stop the driver but he continued heading the wrong direction at a high rate of speed.
Wrong-Way Driver Dead in Car Accident Saturday
A few moments later, the Hyundai struck a gray Honda Civic that was going south on the freeway near Rainbow Valley Boulevard.
The motorist in the Civic, a 20-year-old Murrieta woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect was transported to Palomar Medical Center, where he died.
The names of the deceased parties have not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, officers believed that alcohol or other drugs played a role in the incident which remains under investigation.
