Tanker Truck, SUV Crash Head-on Highway 99 in Vina
TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 9, 2021) – A fatal wrong-way Highway 99 crash happened Thursday morning between an SUV and a tanker truck in Vina, Tehama County.
One person is dead and another injured in the Tehama County crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Vina traffic accident took place about 6 a.m. this morning, just south of South Avenue, the CHP said.
Wrong-way Driver in SUV Hits Tanker Truck
CHP officials report a northbound Dodge SUV was traveling in southbound lanes of Highway 99. It eventually collided head-on with an oncoming 2016 Peterbilt tanker truck.
A 28-year-old Red Bluff man driving the SUV suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the wrong-way Highway 99 crash.
Meanwhile, Pedro Macias Jr., 60, of Chico, who was driving the tanker truck, suffered moderate injuries in the collision. A helicopter ambulance airlifted him to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.
The crash remains under investigation.
