Fatal Pedestrian Accident I-5 Freeway, Manchester Ave On Ramp
CARDIFF BY THE SEA, Calif. (Feb. 19, 2020) — Felipe A. Casarrubias, 54, of Pico Rivera, died three days after a pedestrian accident on the Interstate 5 Freeway at the Manchester Avenue on ramp in San Diego County.
The collision took place at 6:49 p.m. to the California Highway Patrol.
Casarrubias was identified by the San Diego Medical Examiner. He was struck by a driver in a gray BMW when he exited his vehicle after pulling over in the southbound emergency lane. A second vehicle may have also hit Mr. Casarrubias, police said.
Police closed down the on ramp to the freeway and paramedics responded to help the injured man.
Casarrubias was critically injured and transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital-La Jolla. He was diagnosed with traumatic head injuries and later died in the hospital on Feb, 16th.
The crash remains under investigation to determine fault.
