Driver Killed, Passenger Injured in Collision Near West Monte Vista Avenue Sunday
Turlock, CA (November 21, 2021) – Fernando Herrera, a 21-year-old man, suffered injuries following a car crash that occurred on Highway 99 early Sunday.
The Modesto Bee News reported Fernando Herrera was a passenger in an SUV driven by a 29-year-old man. For an unknown reason, the driver allowed the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe to veer off the highway. The motorist made a sharp right turn and continued driving off the east edge of the road.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m., rescue teams arrived at the crash site. First responders found the Tahoe rolled down the embankment near West Monte Vista Avenue.
Emergency crews found the driver ejected from the flipped SUV. Meanwhile, Fernando Herrera ended up partially trapped in the wreckage. Firefighters worked extensively to extricate the victim.

Per article published online, paramedics rushed Fernando Herrera to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of serious injuries–including broken ribs, back, scapula and right hand; and a possible skull fracture.
Meanwhile, officials sadly pronounced the driver dead.
Detectives stayed at the scene the whole morning to investigate several factors surrounding the tragic car crash on Highway 99 in Turlock.
