Fidel Gomes Reyes, 64, Badly Injured in Santa Maria Crash at Betteravia and Philbric
SANTA MARIA, CA (May 4, 2022) – A fatal crash left Fidel Gomes Reyes badly injured at Betteravia and Philbric roads in Santa Maria.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 64-year-old Santa Maria man as the victim of the wreck which took place on Monday.
The incident happened when Fidel Gomes Reyes was driving a 2006 Peterbilt semi-truck west on Betteravia Road, east of Santa Maria. At the same time, a 2006 Honda Civic was going south on Philbric Road.
The car stopped at a stop sign and then started to make a left turn onto eastbound Betteravia. The Honda drove directly in front of the tractor-trailer which did not have a stop sign.
Car and Semi-Truck Collide
CHP said in the process, the two collided in the intersection. The truck went off the road and slammed into a power pole and fence nearby.
The Santa Maria Times and Noozhawk wrote that the trailer rolled over due to the impact of the collision. Fidel Gomes Reyes sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash.
The driver of the Civic, 32-year-old Domingo Perez Lopez, survived with major injuries. His passenger, Servillano Perez Lopez, suffered moderate injuries following the accident.
Paramedics rushed all three Santa Maria residents to the Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment. The wreck occurred on May 2 at about 6:30 a.m.
CHP added that the 44-year-old man in the left rear passenger seat of the Honda died in the incident. The cause of the Santa Maria crash is still under investigation.
