Fillmore Hit-and-Run Crash on River Street December 8Man Injured in Fillmore DUI Hit-and-Run Accident Near River Street and Dunton Lane

FILLMORE (December 15, 2017) – An alleged DUI hit-and-run crash left a man injured in the area of River Street and Dunton Lane on December 8, according to Ventura County Star.

The accident was reported at 9:35 p.m.

As per the article, police said 31-year-old Mariela Desantiago was driving west on eastbound River Street when she collided with a car traveling in the same lane.

Desantiago then struck an unoccupied parked vehicle. A male victim, apparently the driver of the eastbound car, was treated at the scene.

Police affirmed that Desantiago did not stop and continued west on River Street where she lost control of her vehicle and hit another vacant parked car. The Fillmore woman stopped after plowing into a residence on River Street.

Desantiago was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the wreck. She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run and was taken into custody.

In this incident, it is evident that Ms. Mariela Desantiago will be held fully responsible for causing the collision that led to the injuries of the man involved. Regardless of her reasons, leaving the scene following a crash is a serious crime and punishable by law especially if the collision hurt another individual.

Aside from fleeing the area, the suspect is also accused of driving under the influence of alcohol at the time. This leaves the victim with the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault party, seeking compensation for all the hospital bills, future medical needs, lost wages, property damage and other losses.

The first thing you should do is contact an attorney. Without the representation of a lawyer, insurance companies might make contact with you directly, and since they are trained to protect their best interests, this could mean a loss of rights on your behalf, especially if you unknowingly sign something that they didn't completely explain to you.
