Firebaugh crash Interstate 5 Nees
1 Killed, 1 Injured in Firebaugh Crash on Interstate 5 Near Nees Avenue
FIREBAUGH, CA (June 25, 2022) – A big rig crash killed one person and injured another on the Intestate 5 and Nees Avenue near Firebaugh.
According to an article published by The Fresno Bee, the tragic accident took place on Saturday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck at about 2:17 p.m.
The incident happened when a 2016 Freightliner was going north on the Intestate 5, just south of the Nees Avenue off-ramp, near Firebaugh.
The traffic slowed in the area due to an earlier car fire on the shoulder. For an unknown reason, the driver of the semi-truck failed to see the slow traffic.
Big Rig Hits Multiple Cars
In the process, the big rig slammed into a 2016 Nissan Murano and three other vehicles. The California Highway Patrol described the other cars as a gray Kia Optima, a white Honda Accord and a red Ford Bronco.
The Freightliner rolled over due to the impact of the collision. Paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed that the woman in the right rear passenger seat of the Nissan died as a result of the wreck.
At least one individual sustained minor injuries following the incident. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the northbound lanes of the Interstate 5 to shut down for a time near Nees after the wreck. The cause of the fatal Firebaugh crash is still under investigation.
