2 Killed in Firebaugh Head-On Crash Near Highway 33 and Douglas Avenue
FIREBAUGH, CA (June 20, 2021) – A head-on crash killed two people near Highway 33 and Douglas Avenue in Firebaugh.
According to the FOX 26 News and Your Central Valley, the tragic accident occurred on Sunday morning. Officers reported the wreck at around 5:48 a.m.
The incident happened when a pickup truck was going north on Highway 33 in Firebaugh. At the same time, another pickup was traveling south.
2 Pickup Trucks Collide, Catch Fire
For an unknown reason, the northbound driver veered into the southbound lane. In the process, the two trucks crashed head-on near Douglas Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol said the southbound motorist was towing an alfalfa hay rake. Both vehicles caught fire as a result of the collision.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and pronounced the operators of the two trucks dead at the scene. Their names have not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the southbound lanes of Highway 33 to shut down following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Firebaugh crash is still under investigation.
