Aldagracia Cruz-Penaloza Killed in Crash on 405 Freeway
COSTA MESA, Calif. (March 27, 2019) – A Tustin teenager, identified as Flor Solano was injured in a multi-vehicle crash that killed her mother Aldagracia Cruz-Penaloza early Wednesday morning on the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway.
Sherrele McCollom, 33, of San Juan Capistrano, was also injured in the one of two collisions that took place about 4:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
There were roughly four vehicles involved in the crash near the Harbor Boulevard exit. A 2017 Toyota Corolla driven by Cruz-Penaloza was reportedly involved in a minor crash with another vehicle in the No. 1 lane.
While the other vehicle moved to the right shoulder, Solano, 18, and her mother got out of their Toyota and were standing next to the vehicle in a traffic lane when an oncoming 2015 Audi struck them. The impact pushed the Toyota into the path of McCollom’s 2000 Chevrolet Malibu which was then struck by a Toyota Prius.
McCollom and Solano both suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospitals.
David Akira Tam Jr., 43, of Carlsbad, driving the Audi was uninjured.
