Florencio Alonso Jr., 36, Hit and Killed by Drunk Driver in Whittier
WHITTIER (April 14, 2019) – A pedestrian was killed after an alleged DUI crash along Carmenita Road in South Whittier early Sunday.
Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner identified the victim as 30-year-old Florencio Alonso Jr., of Whittier.
According to KTLA, Alonso was walking east across Carmenita Road when he was struck by a 2007 Toyota. The collision was reported about 12:25 a.m., just south of Lakeland Avenue.
California Highway Patrol said the driver of the Toyota driven by 36-year-old Sary Tuy was traveling south on Carmenita when it hit the man.

Paramedics responded to the site and pronounced Alonso dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that Tuy was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The Norwalk man was then arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving.
The suspect posted $100,000 bail and was released from custody Sunday afternoon pending his initial court appearance. The investigation is ongoing.
