FONTANA, California (February 18, 2016) –– A bicycle rider was injured early Wednesday morning when he was struck by a car by a suspected drunk driver on Foothill Boulevard, the Fontana Police Department said.
Felipe Martin of Hawthorne was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol when he crashed his gray 1999 Honda Accord into the bicyclist near Tokay Avenue.
The bicyclist, described as a 40 to 50 year old Hispanic man, died of his injuries at the scene just after midnight. Police say the driver struck the victim who landed on his hood and windshield, but then he was thrown roughly 40 feet after the car hit a light pole.
Police closed down Foothill between Sultana and Tokay avenues to investigate the crash and subsequently arrested Mr. Martin on felony DUI charges.
Witnesses may contact the Fontana Police Department at (909) 350-7700.
