FONTANA, California (November 30, 2015) — A female bicyclist was injured Monday morning when she was struck by a big rig truck at the intersection of Whittram and Cherry avenues in San Bernardino County, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The crash took place about 11:15 a.m. this morning. The female bike rider was hit and went underneath the truck. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where she is being treated for moderate injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash and will determine liability.
Under California law, motorists are required to provide a 3-foot passing distance between themselves and bicyclists. Bicyclists are also considered as pedestrians under state laws and have the right-of-way.
