Alvarado Struck and Killed by SUV While Inspecting Tire
The victim was identified as Jose Alvarado, of Pomona.
California Highway Patrol said about 3:45 a.m., a vehicle pulled over on the left shoulder, west of the Cherry Avenue exit, when its tire blew. All three occupants exited the car to inspect the tire.
The right rear passenger then saw a white mid-sized SUV approaching them and jumped back into their vehicle. Alvarado, who was initially seated in front, was reportedly unable to react and was hit by the SUV.
The impact threw him about 40 feet forward. He died at the scene.
Meanwhile, CHP the SUV driver fled the area. The suspect vehicle was last seen exiting Cherry Avenue with a possible damage to the left front side.
