Suspect Fled After Crash Injures 4 People at Sierra Avenue and I-10 Freeway
FONTANA, California (June 30, 2014) – Suspected hit-and-run driver Mauricio Alexander Argueta, 36, of Rancho Cucamonga was arrested Saturday night in connection with a crash earlier that morning that injured four people including a baby and a child, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Argueta was allegedly driving a black 2006 Ford Escape at an estimated 60 mph when he allegedly drove through a red traffic light at approximately 3:34 a.m. He reportedly crashed into the back of a 1999 Nissan Altima with five occupants at the intersection of Sierra Ave and the Interstate 10 Freeway. The suspect then abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene of the injury accident on foot.
Police later caught up with Argueta and arrested him at an apartment in the 9900 block of Placer Street about 11 p.m. the same day. He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on $500,000 bail and faces charges of hit-and-run.
The victims injured in the crash include a 4-month-old baby, an 11-year-old child and two adults including the driver of the Nissan.
“Police will continue to investigate this car accident,” said Attorney James Johnson. “However, it’s important to take steps to secure your legal rights immediately after an accident and get an experienced attorney on your side.”
